How are you coming along on the resolutions you set back in January? One of my 2012 goals that I like very much, is to curate my life. It means I'm going through my closet and getting rid of anything I don't love. I'm not renewing magazines that I don't read cover to cover. I'm only saying yes to social activities that have a value-added component for me. Also, I culled my RSS feed.

Things had gotten out of control the way zucchini plants do this time of year. I'd just had enough. I was subscribed to too many blogs, and I accepted the fact that I couldn't get to them all. Also, my priorities had changed. Since launching The Giving Table last year, you can only imagine how the category of the food system has emerged in my feed. Suddenly, I was subscribing to more and more blogs tackling issues like school lunch reform, the food bill, and global hunger, and reading less design blogs. So I took the plunge. I kept the handful of design blogs I really enjoyed, and let my new priorities lead the way. Even worse, I was subscribed to well over 100 food blogs, which wasn't sustainable, either, so I hit delete without remorse.

There was a moment mid-June where I thought I had missed the season entirely. While all of you were gathering rhubarb and fava beans and writing lovely posts about it, I was doing nothing of the sort. Spring was busy. Good busy. There were trips for both business and pleasure, birthday dinners, and weddings. I was eating just fine, well in fact, but I needed a re-boot. All this added up to a strange and (thankfully) short-lived rut, where I found myself somewhat melancholy that I hadn't yet made it to the farmer's market to take home some of spring's bounty for myself. So I pulled up my bootstraps, tucked a reusable bag under my arm, and strolled the market. I also revisited some poems I had saved to use this summer, and this one set everything right.

Today I'm back with Part 2 of the zucchini posts, so I'll pick up where I left off. On the same trip to Hawaii, I also had a moment. You might call it a lightbulb, a-ha, game changing moment, and it's all thanks to zucchini. You might think it was all thanks to kale, but it turns out that kale was hardly the most surprising part of this recipe.

Also, it's safe to say that all of our bodies must be telling us something. As I was working on this post, another wonderful blogger also posted her take on a creamy dressing for kale, and Twitter chronicled our cravings and adaptation ideas as well. I love being in good company this way.
